Our Story

TrueTownWear.com was founded in 2008 by three Massachusetts dads – Peter Erwin, Rob Kuppens and Andy Moser. Standing on the sidelines of a youth soccer match, these three dedicated dads discussed how lucky they were that their kids were involved in town sports and how in many ways it brought the community and friends together each weekend. They also lamented the many financial challenges facing their town and so many others. Many towns are forced to cut back on sports programs and parents worry about adequate and safe fields, but at the same time want their kids to enjoy playing fairly and competitively as they learn the many lessons that sports have to offer. The dads wondered what they could do to give back—to ensure that the spirit and enjoyment of town athletics thrived for years to come and how they could further impact the needs of education and the community overall.

Deciding to get off the sidelines (literally!) and do something, they tapped into their strengths in business. Combined, the three had almost 60 years of experience (they sound old, don’t they?) in retailing, business and finance. They observed how many of the small town sporting good stores were struggling and knew how hard it was for businesses to compete with many of the national chains. They talked about the days when they could walk into the local sporting goods store owned by a neighbor for clothes to convey their own town spirit. They knew how much they and countless others love to wear their town colors, and wondered if there wasn’t a way to capture some of the money spent on apparel to give back to the community. “Why not?” they asked.

With a solid idea and strong desire to make their idea a reality, the trio of dads next approached leading designer and manufacturer – Banner Supply Company. Banner was founded by Craig Rodia – another proud Walpole dad and a visionary in his field. Craig embraced their mission from the very first discussion and serves as the guiding creative force for the products offered at TrueTownWear.com.

And so TrueTownWear was born… Apparel that gives back.
